Martin gets another shot in 2008
By Reid Spencer, Sporting News NASCAR Wire ServiceDAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Martin will get another chance to win the race he covets most next year.
“The (No.) 01 (Ginn Racing) team is going to give me another shot at it — another crack at it in ‘08,” Martin said.
I wish him well, but usually feel these last chance efforts are doomed to disappointment. The thing that irks me the most is that he lost to THE most undeserving driver in NASCAR. IMHO, Kevin Harvick has is a great driver, but he drives mean and doesn’t respect other drivers on the track. Jeff Green and Johnny Sauter are cut from the same mold, but just don’t have Harvick’s talent to avoid wrecks. I make a distinction.
Earnhardt Sr., Lee Petty, Tony Stewart and even Jimmy Spencer (I liked him as a driver, but he’s a waste as a commentator!) drove aggressive … but not mean!
Each of the drivers I mention have often wrecked drivers trying to pass them seemingly out of spite! Not to gain them a position … not to repay a grudge … perhaps from frustration that that their car is a dog on that day. The worst example is when Green consistently wrecked Busch series leading Chad Little when Green was usually a lap or more down, despite driving the well prepared #2 Childress car! The series of wrecks took Little out of the lead and he never recovered. Sauter crashed out leading Kenseth at Richmond (and others) and Harvick gave him an attaboy, since “Kenseth had won lots of races!”
Is it any wonder that Harvick is the ONLY driver to get suspended for a race! Besides, anyone who thinks f**ting in his wife’s face on a TV show is “cute” lacks respect there too … for that matter, even if he had done it in private!
